The irresistible aroma of simmering tomatoes, peppers, and rice swept across Victoria Island last weekend as Nigeria’s culinary superstar, Hilda Baci, once again carved her name into global history. The Guinness World Records has officially confirmed her astonishing feat: the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice ever cooked, weighing a jaw-dropping 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lbs 9 oz).

The record-breaking spectacle unfolded on September 12, 2025, at the Eko Hotels and Suites, during the vibrant Gino World Jollof Festival. What began as a bold challenge soon blossomed into a cultural carnival, drawing thousands of food lovers, celebrities, and dignitaries who gathered to witness Baci’s latest triumph.

For Hilda Baci, who shot to worldwide fame in 2023 after cooking non-stop for an unprecedented 93 hours and 11 minutes, this latest recognition cements her reputation as a national icon and a global ambassador of Nigerian cuisine. Known for her relentless drive and radiant charisma, she once again proved that food is more than sustenance — it is a unifying force.

The monumental dish required staggering proportions: 4,000 kilograms of rice, 500 cartons of tomato paste, 600 kilograms of onions, 168 kilograms of goat meat, and countless litres of oil and spices. All of it went into a custom-built steel pot towering like a cauldron of culture, specially engineered to hold over 23,000 litres. The sheer logistics — from sourcing raw ingredients to stirring the massive pot with long wooden paddles — turned the challenge into a military-style operation.

The tension peaked when the colossal vessel buckled under its own weight as engineers attempted to lift it onto a crane for weighing. Gasps rippled through the crowd, but luck and resilience held fast: the jollof remained intact, and the weighing went ahead successfully.

Guinness World Records announced the confirmation with characteristic flair on its official X account, declaring: “New record: Largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice – 8,780 kg achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”

Celebrities including Funke Akindele, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Tomike Adeoye, and Ogun State First Lady Bamidele Abiodun joined the throng of supporters, cheering Baci as she stirred history into every spoonful. The event pulsed with music, dance, and jubilation, transforming the record attempt into a nationwide festival of pride.

When the scales tipped in her favour, Baci dedicated the victory to her team and to Nigerians everywhere. “This moment isn’t mine alone — it belongs to us all,” she declared, her voice breaking with emotion. “Together, we’ve shown the world that Nigerian food isn’t just delicious — it’s legendary.”

In keeping with her generous spirit, the mammoth jollof was portioned out and shared among thousands of attendees and passersby, ensuring that no one left the grounds without tasting a piece of history.

With two Guinness World Records under her belt, Hilda Baci has become more than a chef; she is a symbol of Nigerian resilience, creativity, and culinary dominance. And as the sun set over Lagos that evening, one thing was clear: the world will not forget the day Nigeria served jollof on the grandest scale imaginable.
