Over Hundreds of Nigerians in Israel and Iran Await Rescue Amid Rising Regional Conflict
As rockets fly and tensions boil over in the Middle East, the Federal Government of Nigeria has activated emergency evacuation procedures for its citizens caught in the escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, made the announcement in Abuja through a press release signed by ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa. The move comes as part of an urgent humanitarian response to ensure the safety of Nigerians abroad, as the conflict enters its seventh day of deadly escalations.
“The government remains committed to the safety and welfare of all its citizens, both at home and abroad,” Tuggar affirmed.
Nigerians in both countries have been directed to immediately contact the nearest Nigerian embassies—Tel Aviv and Tehran—for registration and evacuation guidance.
Tuggar also applauded the relentless efforts of Nigeria’s foreign missions in coordinating swift responses and staying connected with distressed nationals, stating that “no Nigerian will be left behind.”
Sources indicate that several hundred Nigerians—including students, workers, and business people—are likely to be airlifted in coming days, once clearance and logistics are finalized in partnership with local authorities and global allies.
While details remain classified for operational security, flights are expected to depart from secured zones under diplomatic escort, avoiding active war zones and high-risk areas.
At the same time, the Nigerian government has renewed its international call for peace, urging both nations to “respect humanitarian law, cease hostilities, and return to the path of dialogue.”
“The loss of innocent lives cannot continue to be the price of unresolved political grievances,” Tuggar warned.
Nigeria has long maintained a policy of non-aggression and diplomatic resolution, and this current intervention reaffirms its position as a responsible global actor committed to human security.
As citizens await rescue, the government’s swift action sends a strong signal of national solidarity and the importance of proactive foreign policy in uncertain global times.
